The last competition of the 2012-2013 season was held out in Lake Tahoe, California and Nevada. I was very fortunate that my Aunt Kara from Connecticut wanted to take me and we had a ton of fun.
This was the 2013 U.S. Nationals and it was my first time ever competing in this event. It was really cool to be skiing against the top people in the United States as well as the Women’s 2010 Olympic Gold Medalist in the mogul’s event. I competed in two events while at Heavenly, single moguls and dual moguls. We had two training days to adjust to the course and the competitions were held on Friday and Saturday. I ended up placing 25th overall in single moguls, which was an accomplishment for me because I came into the event seeded 36th. In duals I ended up falling in my qualifications run, but it was really cool to see the top athletes in the event dual side by side down the course.
Since the competition ended on Saturday my Aunt Kara and I had two more days before we had
to head home. In those two days we were able to do a lot of fun activities, one of which was a helicopter ride over Lake Tahoe. It was an awesome experience since it was my first time ever riding in a helicopter. Also we got to walk around Heavenly village since our hotel was right in the center of it. At first my Aunt Kara and I had planned to go skiing at Squaw Valley on the last day we were out there. We drove to Squaw only to be surprised by a lot of rain and fog. So, instead of skiing, we ended up finding a great ropes course near the mountain and spent the rest of the day challenging ourselves through many obstacles up in the trees. Overall this experience was amazing and I can’t wait to go back next year!
Thanks Aunt Kara!
