US Junior Championships – Park City UT

My second to last competition of the year was held in Park City, Utah for the U.S. Junior Freestyle Championships. This competition was an invite only competition and all competitors were 18 years or younger. While out there I was able to spend time with my Aunt Stephanie, and cousin Ally from Idaho. Oma flew out to Park City with my mom and I and I thank her for making this competition possible for me. My aunt and cousin drove from Boise down to Park City to watch the competition. In this competition I competed in three events, single moguls, aerials and big air. Moguls took place on Prospector Run at Park City Mountain and aerials and big air took place at the Utah Olympic Park. It was really cool to be able to spend time at both places and be able to ski at both of them.

This was my first chance to compete at a competition at this level. Last year I had qualified to compete but a day before training for the competition started I tore my ACL

and meniscus, which ended my 2012 season. This was both a physical and mental barrier for me to overcome and I am sure that I did that this year.

I had a rough start in the beginning of the week when I fell across the finish line during the single moguls competition. I ended up placing 29th overall and 5th in my age group in singles. Throughout the training and competition days for moguls I was able to ski with my family at Park City and enjoy the mountain. While at Park City I was able to do some bowl skiing, which was such a cool experience! After singles moguls was the aerial event. My family and I were done skiing at Park City for the week but I was able to ski and compete at the Utah Olympic Park for Aeria
ls and Big Air. I had one day to train and practice my jumps before the Aerial and Big Air competition. At the aerial competition I did one of my best back lays of the season followed by a good back tuck. I ended up placing 4thoverall and 2nd in my age group. After the aerial competition I had a quick lunch break before I went back out and took a few practice jumps for the big air competition. I did two 360’s for my jumps and ended up placing 4th overall and 3rdin my age group. It was a great way to end the week and I can’t wait to go back next year!
